As Senior Director, Forensics, Bob is responsible for leading the team of digital forensic investigators who collect, preserve, review, and present critical digital evidence (both data and metadata) that clearly proves malfeasance.
Having conducted hundreds of examinations of computers and various digital media, Bob's experience in extracting and reviewing digital data across many platforms makes him a valuable member of the Cytelligence team.
Bob joins Cytelligence after a 31-year career with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), 15 of those years in the role of senior forensic analyst as a Detective Sergeant in the Technological Crime Unit of the Electronic Crime Section (ECS) where he worked on serious investigations involving homicide, child exploitation, sexual assault, and fraud.
At the Technological Crime Unit (TCU), he was a Team Leader responsible for supervising both uniform and civilian analysts investigating cases involving child sexual exploitation—the most heinous crimes affecting our most vulnerable citizens. These cases included child luring, possession, as well as making and distributing child pornography. The TCU investigated and managed hundreds of cases every year.
He also conducted examinations for other criminal cases such as homicides, sexual assault offences, criminal harassment and other benchmark crimes during his tenure at the OPP.
Bob has been declared an expert witness several times in the Ontario Court of Justice and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice levels for Computer Forensics and Data Recovery. He is very comfortable meeting with Crown Attorneys, defence counsel, and other digital forensics defence experts when discussing evidentiary issues. Often, a resolution (i.e. a plea bargain) would be achieved by having the respective parties meet and understand the pending evidence to be presented in court, avoiding unnecessary and lengthy criminal trials.
Throughout his career, Bob has mentored and coached the next generation of computer forensic investigators entering the profession. In addition, he worked with and assisted many Ontario municipal police services that did not have a computer forensics program to conduct investigations.
Bob has been awarded many medals and honours including: Police Exemplary Service Medal, for 20 years of Canadian Police Service; First Bar - 30 years of Canadian Police Service; the OPP Commissioner's Recognition of Service; and Ontario Premier's Scroll for Recognition of Service.
Bob is a Certified Computer Examiner (CCE) and is a member of the following professional associations: International Society of Computer Forensic Examiners (ISFCE); the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA); and a past member of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Combat Internet Crimes Against Children.
